What happens at the art museum ‘After Dark’

Beaux Arts in Fort Lauderdale – a charity group started in 1959 by Junior Leaguers focused solely on raising money for the arts – is having a gala, and you’re invited.

The annual party, this year called “Art After Dark,” will be Nov. 7 at the NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale. Proceeds from the evening help pay for initiatives and scholarships at the art museum and the AutoNation Academy of Art + Design.

Last year’s event raised close to $50,000, and Lucia Roppolo, the Beaux Arts public relations chair for the 2015 gala, says they’re hoping to top that this year.

Individual VIP tickets are $225. General admission is $150 per person, or $250 per couple.

“It’s going to be a bit of a Mad Men theme,” Roppolo says. “There are going to be dirty martinis and we’re asking people to dress in black and white.”

The VIP access starts at 6 p.m. with drinks on the museum balcony. Emmy nominated composer and violinist Daniel Bernard Roumain is the entertainment. Roumain has worked with choreographer Bill T. Jones and musician Lady Gaga. “That will be wonderful,” Roppolo says.

General admission opens at 7:30 p.m. and a live and silent auction will be a major part of the evening. Some of the big items up for bid? An African safari, a Ferrari weekend experience and a European cruise. The evening fare is heavy hors-d’oeuvres and cocktails.

“It’s more of an intimate crowd,” says Roppolo, about the evening’s attendees. “It’s an exciting night for them, and it’s an exciting night for us.”
