Seeing, and appreciating, ‘The Sopranos’ again

Way back before there was Homeland and Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad. Way back before there was House of Cards, Orange Is the New Black and The Wire.

Way, way back to the one that started them all. If you’re running low on viewing matter, watch it again, as if for the first time in 1999, as I just did.

I’m talking about those fascinating and ever-burdened Sopranos. Tony, gosh I’ve missed you. Has it really been 14 years since you first came on the scene, with your family and all those nasties out there? With its brilliant writing and acting, this series opened a whole new era on the small screen. And it holds up a second time on our giant small screens.

James Gandolfini has passed on, but he left us work of fearsome artistry. Know what I’m sayin’?
