Rappelers scale B Ocean for Gilda’s Club

Has your boss ever pushed you over the edge? Gilda’s Club South Florida will help you return the favor. In its first-ever Over the Edge fund raiser, the cancer support organization is offering South Floridians the opportunity to rappel down the side of B Ocean Fort Lauderdale on April 27.

For the Toss the Boss plan, business and community groups are invited to band together, raise at least $1,000 and elect a cohort – the boss, if he/she has the inclination – to join in the daredevil adventure.

Individuals can also sign themselves up, raise the funds and take the scenic trip. Howard Jacoby of Plantation, who has undergone several chemotherapy treatments for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, is joining in. “Gilda’s was there for me when I needed the support that my friends and family couldn’t give me,” says Jacoby, 60. “They didn’t understand what I was going through, and Gilda’s Club provided me with the support I needed to get by.”

The rappellers wear full-body industrial harnesses and are trained on a lesser height first. Family, friends and colleagues are invited to cheer them on from the ground.

If your boss is leery, not to worry. It’s for a great cause – helping people living with cancer. Besides, the first step is the toughest, and it’s all downhill from there.
