“The challenge of eating healthy is hard, so we make it convenient,” says Scott Harris as he leads a tour of DeliverLean’s new facility in Oakland Park. The 30,000-square-foot facility includes a commercial kitchen, dehydration rooms, raw food and cold-pressed juice areas, and a gourmet test kitchen for special events and cooking classes – all designed to meet the growing demand for this specialized meal delivery service that includes its own cold-pressed juice company, OnJuice.
When Harris, a successful business owner, noticed that lunchtime and the subsequent post-lunch dip in productivity was a distraction for his employees, he hired a chef to prepare healthy meals for his staff. The improvement in productivity and morale led him to establish DeliverLean in late 2011 as a means to provide others access to a healthy and nutritious diet while saving valuable time. In three years Harris and his business partner Olga Kuzenkov have turned the concept into an award-winning business.
DeliverLean offers six flexible and customizable meal plans – Traditional, Paleo, Organic, Gluten-Free, Vegan and Vegetarian – that focus on lean proteins, fresh vegetables and low-glycemic complex carbohydrates made fresh daily by in-house Executive Chefs Andrew Whiteman and James Donato. Meals are delivered to a client’s doorstep in an insulated cooler bag beginning at $26.85 per day. Add-ons include cold pressed juices, snacks such as popcorn cauliflower and cheesy kale chips and low calorie, primarily gluten-free desserts.
“Expanding into the new kitchen will give us the ability to grow up to 10,000 customers in South Florida,” Harris says. DeliverLean serves the area from Jupiter to Kendall and plans to expand as far as Tampa.
