Daymond John, founder of apparel brand FUBU and one of the stars of ABC’s Shark Tank, will headline the Jewish Federation of Broward County’s “Men’s Nite Out,” 6-8:30 p.m. April 30 at the Signature Grand in Davie.
“In the past, we’ve had sports figures as speakers,” says Mitch Starr, who, along with Adam Davis, Dan Newman and Jarred Elmar, is chairing the event. “But Daymond’s popularity with Shark Tank is obviously a big draw — and it’s exciting to bring in someone from the business world who has been successful and literally created something out of nothing.”
John created FUBU, which stands for “For Us By Us,” to reflect the music industry’s hip-hop lifestyle. By 2001, FUBU was an international success, with almost 75 freestanding stores around the world. In 2009, John joined the cast of Shark Tank, where he considers pitches by hopeful entrepreneurs seeking investments. He is also the author of The Brand Within: How We Brand Ourselves from Birth to the Boardroom.
A minimum gift of $365 to the Federation’s 2015 Annual Campaign is required to attend. Attendees must also pay a couvert of $95.
A VIP reception, which includes a photo opportunity with John, is open to anyone who contributes a minimum of $5,000 to the Annual Campaign, Event Sponsorship or Corporate Partners program. Annual Campaign gifts are payable through Dec. 31, 2015.
