“Wheels & Heels” at the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach
Iconic Matchbox and Hot Wheels toys, as well as “teenage doll” Barbie, will be on display through Oct. 26 at the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach. Visitors can view hundreds of objects, including Barbie’s 1964 theater, college dorm and a number of her houses, horses and dogs. There will also be Matchbox racetracks from the ’50’s, ’60s and ’70s. “As cultural icons, these toys are not uncontroversial,” organizers say, “[and] the exhibition will also look at their impact on society, contemporary art and media.”
