When the Atlantic Hotel & Spa opened in 2004, it was the first new hotel along that stretch of Fort Lauderdale Beach in more than 20 years. In the decade that followed the area has welcomed several additional high-end hotels, but the Atlantic remains sought after for its boutique charm, exceptional concierge-style service and ultra-spacious accommodations.
“The Atlantic is like a fine wine – it’s been getting better with age,” says owner Rob Kaliner, who purchased and began the refurbishment of the AAA Four Diamond-rated hotel in December 2012. Kaliner is a high-end residential developer by trade. The Atlantic is his only hotel project, but one that he feels particularly passionate about.
“It’s a relatively small hotel,” he says, “but big enough to have great amenities like our 12,000-square-foot spa and fitness center, and small enough to not be overwhelming.”
With 124 rooms – 56 of which are suites ranging from 800 to 1,200 square feet – and 1½ staff to every room, this Preferred Hotels & Resorts’ member hotel takes great pride in its service.
“It’s a very special place, like home,” Kaliner says.
The Atlantic’s recently opened Beauty & the Feast Bar | Kitchen is also receiving acclaim for its globally inspired American dishes and inviting atmosphere overlooking the ocean.
Guests can enjoy breakfast (or brunch until 2 p.m.), lunch and dinner seven days a week at Beauty & the Feast, relax poolside with casual fare at the fifth-floor Ocean Market Grille, or the hotel can arrange for a personal chef to prepare a meal in the privacy of a suite and oceanfront terrace.
