Another look at HBO’s ‘True Detective’

It was easy to miss True Detective the first time around. HBO premiered the eight-episode series in January, a time of many TV riches and distractions. Even if you caught it then, you may want to go back and marvel again at the exquisite chemistry between Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. Both are nominated for Emmys now for their provocative and eccentric roles as state police detectives in a forlorn part of Louisiana. Our two heroes go hard after some of the spookiest bad guys ever seen on TV, with scenes and images straight from Coppola or Conrad.

Late word is there will be a season two, set for January 2015; but, sadly, these stars won’t be back. Rumors fly about who’ll be coming aboard: Brad Pitt, Jessica Chastain, Joaquin Phoenix and Colin Farrell have been mentioned.

While we wait, download The Handsome Family’s haunting theme song, Far from Any Road. It’s a road leading far from anything we’ve seen on TV.
