We hereby welcome Kavita Channe to the answer end of a Q&A.
The South Florida sports and entertainment personality has herself interviewed an array of celebs and sports figures on the red carpet, the sidelines and the screen. To name only a fraction, they include the Dolphins’ Dan Marino and Don Shula, the Heat’s Pat Riley and Erik Spoelstra, and actresses Gabrielle Union and Sofia Vergara.
However, interviewer is but one bloom in the métier bouquet that is Kavita Channe. Making good on a UF degree in journalism, telecommunications and business, the 39-year-old dynamo has been, among other endeavors, founder of luxury celebrity concierge and marketing firm, The Procurer; producer and host of The CW’s VIP TV; Fox Sports broadcaster for the Florida Panthers; sideline reporter for the Jacksonville Jaguars; host on the TV talk show The Chat in Jacksonville; and creator of Channé Rosé, a wine inspired by her travels in Provence.
Channe (pronounced Chann-ay, c’est sure) has also appeared in films and on HBO’s Ballers, Fox’s Paradise Hotel and VH1’s Baller Wives, and is a speaker and event emcee, such as for the recent 211 Broward Non-Profit Awards.
A London native with Indian and Greek roots, she moved to South Florida when she was 5 and now lives in Fort Lauderdale with her daughter, Micah, 17 months. A single mom expecting her second child this month, she takes a breath to, for a change, answer questions for our standard Quote Unquote interview.
Aside from the weather, what do you enjoy most about South Florida?
The comfort and familiarity of where I grew up, the food, the pace, living where people dream of vacationing — it‘s pretty amazing!
Aside from the weather, what do you dislike most about South Florida?
In a place full of glitz and glam, I wish more people here felt comfortable celebrating who they are rather than aspiring to meet artificial expectations.
Are you a beach person or a pool person?
Definitely the beach. It’s natural and God-given.
When in your life are you or have you been the happiest?
When I’m with my daughter, Micah, and whenever I get to travel and explore our beautiful planet.
What do you do when you’re stuck in a traffic jam on I-95?
I catch up on any calls I have to make.
What music are you listening to now?
There’s always opera or classical music playing on my phone. It calms me — and my baby loves it, too!
Are you a fan, and if so, of what?
Peace, love and PIZZA!
What are your social media handles?

Who is your real-life hero or heroine?
My mom. Strong and classy … tiny but fierce! She raised three successful women. I never realized how hard being a mother is until I had my own child.
If you had to choose: Rocky or Raging Bull?
Rocky. Teaches us about persistence and never giving up. Dream it. Do it.
What car are you driving now?
Jaguar XE R-Sport, white with red interior. (I’m a sucker for red interior). About to change to an SUV to hold my babies. Maybe a Tesla Model X?
What do you like most about yourself?
My drive, my heart and my integrity.
What places in South Florida do you recommend to guests visiting from out-of-town?
Fort Lauderdale is my favorite city in South Florida. Myapapaya for a casual breakfast or lunch. Dune at the Auberge, Lobster Bar and Valentino for a classy and gorgeous ambience with delish dining and wine to pair. Happy hour really anywhere on Las Olas. Dalmar Hotel for drinks and apps for a South Beach feel. The nature trails in Birch Park. There’s a lot of shade and you can hit the beach before or after. Catch a show at The Broward Center for the Performing Arts. Have dinner at Marti’s New River Bistro there before. Their popovers with honey butter are worth every calorie!
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Exercise more patience. Live in the present moment more.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Being a mama to my daughter, Magical Micah.
