Words with Florida Panther Sasha BARKOV

By Greg Carannante

City & Shore Magazine

In his fourth season, 21-year-old Panthers workhorse Aleksander “Sasha” Barkov  is a hockey wunderkind. The youngest Finnish team player in the World Junior Championships and the Olympics also became, at 18, the youngest NHL player of the modern-era to score a goal. Last season, his play, sportsmanship and conduct made him one of only three NHL Lady Byng Trophy finalists. At last year’s World Championships in Russia, he helped Finland win the silver medal.

See his website, aleksanderbarkov16.com, for more info on all things “Barky,” including his charitable endeavors, golf school and partnerships with the Ford Vignale, Fitwood furniture and Sarpaneva watches.

Aside from the weather, what do
you enjoy most about living in
South Florida?

Just everything here. But of course the weather is the biggest thing.

Are you a beach person or
a pool person?

I like both but I’m just too lazy to go anywhere. I like to just stay at home.

When in your life are you or have
you been the happiest?

Right now.

What music are you listening to now?

I like Top 50 … and everything, really.

Are you a fan, and if so, of what?

I am a car fan in every way. I like fast cars, classic cars. And there’s three video games I like to play: Battlefield,
FIFA and NHL.

Do you do social media?

Twitter: @barkovsasha95. Instagram: barkovsasha. My website is very important to get the fans familiar with myself. I came from Finland so they probably don’t know about me.

Who is your real-life hero or heroine?

A lot of tennis players and soccer players. Jaromír Jágr  is one of my favorite hockey players.

What places in South Florida do you recommend to guests visiting from out-of-town?

I live in Boca so Boca is one, and then Fort Lauderdale, Sunrise and Miami,
of course.

What do you consider your
greatest achievement?

That I can call myself a NHL player right now. The fans tonight were so good. I enjoy playing here.
