Showroom Q&A: How to bring order to chaos

By Charlyne Varkonyi Schaub

Most of us have been there: We’re constantly straightening up the house because we don’t have a good system for keeping everything in its proper place.

Sari Rieder recognized our collective problem about 11 years ago, and decided to do something about it.

“There was a niche in the market to do organizing,” she says. “Everybody needs a little organization.”

Rieder and her parents, Laureen and Stephen Vigoda, decided to open Beyond Closets, a Delray Beach business that has enlarged over the years from a 1,700- to a 3,500-square-foot showroom. They custom design closets, offices, wall units, murphy beds and garages for optimal organization.

“Closets are becoming more of a priority rather than an afterthought,” she says. “HGTV is showing people that storage is a priority. If we organize ourselves, life can be easier.”

City & Shore: Who are your customers?

Sari Rieder: Someone who wants to maximize his or her living space.

C&S: What special services do you offer?

Rieder: We offer a free home consultation to evaluate a customer’s needs and their décor – transitional, modern or traditional. Then we create a 3D drawing and show them the result on a 42-inch monitor in the showroom. We can walk them through room by room and can make any changes right there. We already have many of the floor plans for the Valencia developments, Hunters Run and Quail Ridge [in Boynton Beach] or they can give us their floor plan.

C&S: What trends are you noticing?

Rieder: People say they want something more contemporary but they don’t want to commit fully to it. We often tone down the modern look with textures.

C&S: What is your delivery time?

Rieder: It is about three weeks for closets and six weeks for entertainment centers.

C&S: What do people desire?

Rieder: Everyone dreams of the ‘Princess Closet,’ with shelves for handbags and shoes. They want to have a closet like Carrie Bradshaw on Sex and the City, but everyone doesn’t have the room for it unless we convert a room into a closet.

C&S: What is your motto?

Rieder: There are no problems, just solutions. Your challenge is not a problem; we will find a solution.
