The fall Fort Lauderdale Home Design and Remodeling Show, Nov. 18-20, will feature many trends in residential and commercial renovations, landscaping, design, furniture, fine art, décor, home security, hurricane protection – and one TV celebrity.
Taniya Nayak, co-host of The Great Christmas Light Fight this season on ABC – and well known for her practical design advice on ABC, HGTV and the Food Network – will share her insider decorating tips at 2 and 4 p.m. Nov. 19 and 20.
Nayak, owner of Taniya Nayak Design in Boston, was the featured designer on Robert Irvine’s Restaurant: Impossible, where she used her design skills to help Irvine give new life to failing restaurants within a small budget. Some of her simple ideas for homes include creating four types of inexpensive pendant lights with a salad bowl, Mason jar, wicker trash can or wire basket.
Need more décor inspiration? One of the other popular features is the room vignettes created especially for the home show by Viviana Galetto-Malave of VGM Decorators in Miami, Robert Black of RB Design in Aventura and Renan Rodriguez of Rozu Design Solutions in Fort Lauderdale. The designers will be on site all weekend to answer questions and offer advice.
The “At Home with Art” segment of the show will feature fine art by local artists selected based on their skills and their willingness to serve as ambassadors to the South Florida visual arts community. The artists include Diana Pantoga, Paola Gallardo, Felicia Fish, Lena Luckey, Glen Mayo, Annie Melik, Lisa Botto Lee, Melanie Margolies, Susan Gillingham, Phoenix Marks, Jen Walls, Hilma Koelman, Carmen Smith, Grisell Gajano, Claire Satin and Erika Zalez.
Chef Paulette Bilsky, a corporate and private chef and home show culinary consultant, has selected chefs to demonstrate how to prepare locally sourced food and healthy holiday meals. Bilsky will demonstrate with Chef “Dee” Hodges, chef/owner of Empty Plates Catering in Miami; Dan Kunz, owner of Dan the Cookie Man in Fort Lauderdale; Patty Ruiz, chef/owner of The Mad Table of Miami; and Robyn Webb, award-winning cookbook author, nutritionist and food editor of Diabetes Forecast magazine.
“We’re excited to have our fall Home Show take place just before Thanksgiving,” says show director Adam Kaye. “Often people don’t realize that many of our exhibitors offer furniture, home décor items and quick home improvement products, plus the fast delivery needed to finish those improvements desired at this time of the year. And, with cooler temperatures, this is the time to become inspired and start planning the larger projects for the upcoming year.”
