It may not have the commercial glitz of a certain South Beach art extravaganza that will go unnamed, but Fort Lauderdale Art & Design Week sure knows what it’s about — art, and art only.
Through Jan. 24, the focus of the third annual event is squarely on Broward County artists and arts and cultural institutions, featuring museum exhibitions, artist studio tours, gallery openings, roundtables, self guided tours, architectural walks and mural tours by bike.
The goal? Making Greater Fort Lauderdale an international cultural destination.
Among the highlights:
AIA ARCHITECTURAL FAIR, Jan. 21-23: A live lecture and virtual panel discussions as well as an architectural bicycle tour of Fort Lauderdale.
LUNCHTIME ARTTALKS, through Jan. 22: live-streamed events featuring local 2020 Florida Biennial artists such as Mindy Shrago and Francie Bishop Good.
NEW ART SOUTH FLORIDA, Jan. 22: An exhibition of 13 South Florida artists who are recipients of the 2020 South Florida Cultural Consortium awards at NSU Art Museum, curated by Director and Chief Curator Bonnie Clearwater.
ANNIFLO’ETRY, Jan. 23: A unique artistic showcase spotlighting an array of national and internationally renowned professional spoken word artists outdoors in the Peck Courtyard at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.
ZERO EMPTY SPACES – TARPON RIVER, Jan. 23: A tour of the Gulfstream Village studio, part of the artist studio/vacancy management company that creates affordable artist studios in vacant spaces. The location has 18 working artists.
CHOOSE954 MURAL TOUR OF DOWNTOWN FORT LAUDERDALE, Jan. 24: a free, socially distant, guided bike ride tour of street art murals throughout downtown.
