Comedian Bill Malone answers our questions

By Greg Carannante

City & Shore Magazine

In an alternate universe, Bill Malone would be onstage this month cracking people up and wowing them with magic as the marquee entertainer for the Concours d’Elegance at the Boca Raton Resort & Club. In our pandemic universe, however, it was not to be. The Concours was rescheduled to a year from now, Feb. 25-27, 2022.

You could say Malone’s career has been, well, magical. At age 17, he started honing his act, an amalgam of magic and comedy, at the Little Bit O Magic nightclub in his hometown of Chicago. He moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1987, where he owned and operated a comedy and magic club called Houdini’s Pub. He eventually became the resident entertainer at the Pier Sixty-Six Hotel in Fort Lauderdale, The Breakers Palm Beach and the Boca Raton Resort. At the latter, he partnered with Wayne Huizenga to run Malone’s Magic Bar from 1994-2005.

Malone performs shows to suit the occasion, his most-requested being the Close-up Show, an intimate, personalized mix of humor, magic and mind-reading for corporate events. There’s also the Stage Show, the Trade Show and the Strolling Show, in which the mingling comedian entertains guests during a cocktail hour or reception.

An author of magic books and a keynote speaker, Malone has also appeared on international and U.S. television shows, including a recent role on NCIS: Los Angeles.

Malone and his wife, Barbara, live in Estero, near Naples, Fla. He estimates he was traveling to about 10 engagements a month before the pandemic. We seized the opportunity to ask him our recurring set of Quote Unquote questions.
