Work in City & Shore Magazine was honored Saturday at the Florida Press Club’s 2014 Excellence in Journalism Gala.
First Place in the commentary writing category went to the magazine’s Editor & Publisher, Mark Gauert, for an entry that included three columns – “Purple Haze,” bit.ly/1dUp4QB; “For Mature Audiences,” bit.ly/QWabVO; and “The Best Souvenir,” bit.ly/16kdpGN.
The magazine has won five state and national journalism awards this year, in profile writing, commentary/criticism and special interest publication categories, from the Florida Press Club, the South Florida chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists and the national Society For Features Journalism.
The 2014 SPJ awards, announced in August, included 2nd Place for a profile of Bob and Ginny Newhart (http://bit.ly/1ioJijE and http://bit.ly/1onzoDV, respectively), written by contributing editor Elizabeth Rahe; 2nd Place for a collection of Gauert’s column in the Commentary & Criticism category ( http://bit.ly/1ij6fc9); and 3rd Place to City & Shore overall in the Special Interest Publication category. Gauert also won 2nd Place in the Short Feature category in May from the Society For Features Journalism for “The Best Souvenir.’’
