City & Shore Magazine has been honored this year with 13 state and national journalism awards – for Cover Design, Inside Design, Single Issue, Short Feature Story, Specialty Articles, Personality Profiles, Commentary and Humor Writing, among others – from the state Society of Professional Journalists, the Florida Magazine Association, The Florida Press Club, the national Society for Features Journalism and the National Federation of Press Women.
At the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) annual Sunshine State Awards July 9 in Miami, City & Shore Art Director/Designer Anderson Greene won First Place awards in the Magazine Cover and Inside Design categories; and the magazine staff placed second in the best Single Issue category.
In national Society for Features Journalism (SFJ) competition announced in June, City & Shore Magazine Editor & Publisher Mark Gauert won Third Place for his Editor’s letter from last December, “Joie to the World,” in the Short Feature category. Gauert also won the Silver Award for Excellence in Humor Writing at the Florida Magazine Association’s annual conference Sept. 23 at Walt Disney World.
City & Shore Magazine took home five awards – in Special Sections, Feature Photo Essay, Commentary Writing, Travel Writing and Special Awards categories – at the Florida Press Club’s annual gala Saturday (Nov. 5) in St. Augustine.
In competition at the National Federation of Press Women, also in June, contributing writer Robyn A. Friedman won Second and Third Place in the Specialty Articles category, for her On the Money columns in the magazine; and Third Place in the Personality Profile category, for her Powers for Good story last October.
