A new look at an old South Florida movie set

In 1919, the banks of the New River in Fort Lauderdale stood in for the jungles of Polynesia in a silent film entitled The Idol Dancer, directed by D.W. Griffith. Today, Colee Hammock Park looks out on homes along the waterfront.
